County-City Credit Union (CCCU) began in 1963 as the County-City Employees Credit Union serving county and city employees. In early 1963, John Copeland, a CPA and former city clerk, approached David E. Hans at the county highway department about forming a credit union.
David talked with fellow employees and they decided it was a good idea. The credit union began serving only county and city employees. David made the first deposit of $5.00 on July 3, 1963. David Hans was elected President, Fred Gehler was elected Vice President, John Copeland was elected as Secretary-Treasurer, with Ruth Hackbart, Ed Klockow and Floyd Burhans serving as Directors.
CCCU was literally started by a handful of people who decided they would like to save and borrow to help one another. Today, anyone living or working in Jefferson County, the city of Watertown or the village of Cambridge is eligible for membership. All employees of Universal Electronics are eligible.
Our success today would not have been possible without the countless hours many volunteers have given, and still give, to our organization. A special thank-you goes out to all of these people. Their efforts have produced an organization that helps their neighbors every day, and makes a significant contribution to our local economy. "Members Helping Members" isn't just a slogan - it's what we do.
Member owned and controlled since 1963
