Did you just get a check in the mail for no apparent reason?
If you did, it is probably a fraudulent check. Please research the payor for legitimacy before you try to deposit it. Remember the old adage, 'if it seems to good to be true it probably is'.

Important - Please Read:
Remember that a check is only a piece of paper until it has actually cleared the institution it is drawn on. Therefore, please do not assume that you will have immediate access to the check (money) that you deposit. We may place a hold on a check(s) for your protection as well as the protection of our credit union (all of our members). If you have any question about whether or not a hold will be placed on a particular check, please ask us before you spend it.

Also, when you make a deposit, keep in mind that the credit union cannot tell you: when a particular check will clear the institution it is drawn on; when the credit union lifts its hold on funds from a deposited check, it does NOT mean that the check has cleared; if a cashed or deposited check is later returned unpaid, you will be held liable for the bad check.
